| This patient started with a gummy smile, a space between her front teeth, and developing crowding. Because her adult teeth were so large compared to her baby teeth, she did not have room on the sides for all of her cuspids and bicuspids. She was treated for 16 months in Phase I with upper braces, headgear, and the removal of several baby teeth. She then had her braces removed, and wore an upper retainer until the rest of her adult teeth came in.
By age 13, she was ready for her Phase II evaluation. Because she did so well in Phase I with her headgear, and helped her teeth come in straight by wearing her retainer, her second phase was optional. She and her parents elected to do Phase II in order to improve the fit of her back teeth, and to improve the overall stability of her smile. She was very happy to be finished before her junior year. | |
